I'm glad I have them, but I wouldn't purchase SSL plugins today because they have shown a history of not being interested updating and ditching software - and there are just other options in 2017.Thanks a lot, I may give Slate's VMR a try actually I especially appreciate the heads up about SSL's history with software. During my demo, I found that I preferred this sort of workflow far more in my work I own lots of other plugins but the appeal of the SSL Channel specifically was having one plugin that can do many things on each channel rather than having to reach for multiple plugins. I'll definitely do some measurements on the SSL Channel EQ now that you mentioned decramping. The "Enhance" function of the Sonnox Limiter should work great for EDM.Thanks a lot for your feedback. The oversampling options are great.Īll of these can trace their "lineage" from SSL (via Paul Frindle etc.) so I think it's reasonable to mention them here. The SSL Duende Drumstrip is useful, however.īTW, if you do get the Waves SSL plug-ins, the frequency markings on the channel strip EQ section can be rather "approximate." I'd rather use the Sonnox Dynamics for channel compression, which works for just about anything you care to throw at it. The compressor, well, I haven't used it in a while but IIRC it's OK.

Hmm, the Duende Channel Strip isn't all that great in my view. I'm glad I have them, but I wouldn't purchase SSL plugins today because they have shown a history of not being interested updating and ditching software - and there are just other options in 2017. I have the Slate Grey SSL bus clone, but i don't usually bother trying it - the Duende Bus Comp is 'fine', I suppose.ĭrumstrip is indeed good, the subharmonic enhancer is great on kicks that are bass light (or you wish you'd recorded with a Yamaha sub kick) I'd imagine the Glue is better, but I haven't tried it.

I still use the SSL Bus Comp when i stay ITB (i have a real SSL Bus comp), but I did wish it could have an update (oversampling, 4K mode, etc) - I'm quite sure it will never get one, though. But it was always a utility thing for me, and so I just use the slate one (although there's no LPF) The filters sound great and the high end boost sounded nice (although not as nice as when it was DSP based). i did always quite like the SSL Channel Strip, though. Having SSL the EQs in Slate VMR has stopped me using the SSL Channel strip.
